Fiona Apple, the singer-songwriter born on September 13, 1977 is an incredibly talented and well-received artist. She is known for her very distinctive voice and very powerful lyrics that she writes. Fiona Apple is a huge part of innovative and inventive music artists in the nineties. She is an incredibly original artist that could be compared to artists like Bjork and PJ Harvey, or even Alanis Morissette. I am writing this to talk about her legacy and importance as a music artist.
Junior Lola Lemmons has been a fan of Fiona Apple for a long time. “I first discovered Fiona Apple in like seventh or eighth grade. Ever since then I have been hooked. I would say that my favorite song is probably ‘Carrion’ from her first album ‘Tidal,’” Lemmons said.
Lemmons said Apple is one of her favorite artists of all time.
“Although she is definitely one of my favorites, I do have songs that I’m not the biggest fan of. I would say that my least favorite of everything is the album ‘The Idler Wheel,’ it just isn’t my favorite but I can understand why people like it,” she said.
Senior Izzie Rigueiro also said that Fiona Apple was also one of her favorite artists.
“My favorite Fiona Apple song is ‘The First Taste’ off her album ‘Tidal’,” she said.
Rigeurio likes her so much she doesn’t have a least favorite song that she could name.
Fiona Apple is known for her very alternative music that she creates and her sometimes dark themes to her songs. Apple is very poetic and releases albums very periodically. From between when her career started in 1996, she has only released five albums, the last album “Fetch the Bolt Cutters” being released in early 2020.
Rigueiro really got into Fiona Apple because of Lemmons.
“She got my a ‘Tidal’ CD, and then I really got into her from there,” Rigueiro said. “I really got into her even more after listening to that whole album. She’s just so talented!”
Apple has released five studio albums;Tidal, When the Pawn, Extraordinary Machine, The Idler Wheel, and Fetch the Bolt Cutters. She has received three grammy awards for her glorious work.
Junior Leila Chettfour had different ideals about Fiona Apple.
“I like her. She’s not my absolutely favorite but I can appreciate her music. She is a very talented singer and a very talented songwriter. I don’t always vibe with everything that she makes but I can appreciate what she does,” she said.
When asked about a Fiona Apple song to recommend all three said differently.
“The First Taste,” said Rigueiro.
“Carrion,” said Lemmons.
“Definitely I want You To Love Me from Fetch the Bolt Cutters,” said Chettfour.
