It’s officially almost summer, which means it’s Tony Awards season. If you’re unfamiliar with the Tonys, they’re the major awards ceremony for Broadway shows.
This year, the 79th Annual Tony Awards will take place on June 7, and we’re not here to talk about the nominations but rather about our opinion on the season’s snubs.
Beaches: A New Musical
Starting with the musical “Beaches,” which stars the one and only Jessica Vosk. “Beaches” was completely shut out of the nominations, with not even a single nomination.
The real snub of this is that Vosk didn’t get any nominations. I’ve seen videos of her performance online, and I think she’s doing a fabulous job with the role of CeeCee Bloom.
Unfortunately, the shutout for “Beaches” wasn’t too surprising. The show has been performing terribly at the box office, with numbers that are low for a big theater like the Majestic.
Its producers were likely banking on a Tony Nomination as a lifeline, but since there was none, a closing notice might not be too far behind.
Lea Michele
“Glee” star Lea Michele is currently performing as Florence Vassy in the Broadway revival of “Chess”, and although the show received 5 nominations (including Best Actor for Nicholas Christopher!!), Lea was notably left off the list.
And although Lea might not be able to read the fact that her name is not on the list of Tony Nominations, we still think she deserved a nomination.
“Nobody’s Side”, the song Michele sings as Florence in the show, was released to streaming platforms, and even from one listen, you can tell how much work she puts into her role, and, unfortunately, she wasn’t recognized.
But the real heartbreak of this is that the 3-Year Streak of “Glee” actors winning Tony’s has broken when no actors from the hit show were on the list. Darren Criss (Blaine Anderson) won in 2025 for “Maybe Happy Ending”, Jonathan Groff (Jesse St. James) won in 2024 for “Merrily We Roll Along”, and Alex Newell (Unique Adams) won in 2023 for “Shucked”.
Elliot Levey
Apparently, not all things travel the Atlantic well. Levey plays Roald Dahl’s smooth-talking agent in “Giant”, which won him an Olivier in 2025.
Unfortunately, Tony voters didn’t share that same enthusiasm, as he was left off the list of Best Actor in a Play nominations.
His co-stars John Lithgow and Aya Cash were even nominated, without even a nod for Levey. Even the play itself was nominated for Best Play.
And with that, are the (in my opinion) three biggest snubs of this year’s Tony Nominations. The award show will be stacked with many amazing nominations, and every person and show on the list is insanely talented and deserving. The awards ceremony this year is going to be competitive!
