After first appearing as a limited Winter Edition drink in 2024–2025, Red Bull released the iced vanilla berry flavor as a permanent drink called the Ice Edition. The flavor first gained popularity during its seasonal release, and the company later announced it would return to stores year-round under the new name.
Now that it’s back for good, many students and energy drink fans like freshman Katherine Uschold are celebrating.
“I was very excited because I love the drink and I think that it’s the best Red Bull flavor,” she said.
Others had even stronger reactions. Senior Ryan George described his excitement when he heard about the news.
“My jaw dropped and I was elated because I didn’t ever think it was gonna come back,” he says. “It was like Christmas Eve.”
Lots of fans like George were ecstatic when they saw it in stores after its return.
“I jumped up and down at Walgreens. My entire cart was full and my wallet was empty. The workers were for sure judging me but I didn’t care. I felt a lot of joy which I hadn’t felt in a long time,” George said.
Red Bull isn’t just popular—it’s enormous globally. 12.7 billion cans were sold worldwide in 2024 and nearly 14 billion cans were sold in 2025.
The Ice Red Bull contains 114mg of caffeine which is the equivalent of just over 1 cup of coffee. The can costs $3.50 at most stores. Currently, QuikTrip sells two cans for $6. The can comes in a sugar-free version, as well.
Now that the flavor is permanent, fans say they plan to keep buying it throughout the year. Uschold says the berry flavor still works outside the winter season.
“I would buy it year-round because even on a hot summer day it would be refreshing,” she said.
Junior Ella Sloey agreed that the drink isn’t limited to winter.
“I would buy it year-round. I don’t think it’s specific to winter,” she said.
Social media and trends also play a big role in the drink industry. George thinks trends online influence what people choose to buy.
“Yes, because people like to stay up to date on things and stay relevant,” he said.
