G-Eazy

G-Eazy

On January 15th, I attended the G-Eazy concert at The Fabulous Fox Theater. G-Eazy is a well known rapper from Oakland, California. Born on May 24th, 1989, Gerald Earl Gillum is 24 years old and has began putting music onto soundcloud since 2011 starting with his first success “Fried Rice”.

On June 23, 2014, G-Eazy released his very successful album These Things Happen earning him the #3 spot on the US Billboard 200. This album sold nearly 265,000 copies. Out of all 16 songs on this album, “Been On” released on August 31, 2013, is his most popular and well known song. For myself personally, my favorite songs on this album are definitely “Lets get Lost” and “Tumblr Girls”. Last year I was blessed enough to see G-Eazy live on January 7th at The Pageant first row after waiting 7 hours in a snowy 6 degree afternoon. The experience was very chilly but in the end incredibly worth it. That night he promised he would be back next year and he kept his promise.

Thinking
back to the first time I listened to G-Eazy, he has changed significantly. He went from mixtapes and songs like “Runaway Sue” to songs off his newest album named “Sad Boy”. His whole musical demeanor has changed greatly between
These Things Happen and When it’s Dark Out which was just releasedDecember 4th. You can really hear the20160115_220303 (1)stories he is trying to tell throughout his new album. Watching the music video to “Me Myself and I” gives you an inside look at what he goes through internally.

The concert started off with G’s best friend, Marty Grimes, who I was lucky enough to meet just last year and talk to. Next someone completely irrelevant came on stage, and then one of my favorites, Marc E Bassy, came on stage and wowed everyone. While he may not be very popular, he caught the attention of the crowd very quickly.

Next up was A$AP Ferg. Two songs in, he declared that he didn’t like the seating arrangements and demanded we all come to the front: we happily obliged. I quickly made my way to the front row as people piled in behind me.

As the concert went on, he finally decided to explain to us why he chose to come to The Fox. He told the story about how four years ago, he was able to open for Drake at The Fox and how on that day he told himself he would come back and sell out. He went on to say how blessed he felt that he made it and was able to come back and tell us how grateful he was to be there.

The concert went on and throughout the night my friend Giana Canamore and I were able to inch our ways closer and closer and had an incredible night. While the traffic was insane afterward, I had the time of my life and would relive that night over and over if possible.

G-Eazy has impacted my life in so many ways in the last 3 years. I hope he continues to grow and I can see him live on.
