Cardinals update

Following the Cardinal’s loss against the Cubs, St. Louisans have been devestated. However the team still has their heads held high.

Despite the outcome, the 2015 season was still a magnificent journey for the 11-time World Series winners. Acquiring right fielder Jason Heyward and pitcher Jordan Walden, the team was well prepared to play their hearts out.

Unfortunately, the season had a rocky start to say the least. When rookie Oscar Taveras tragically passed away after a car accident in late October of 2014. The loss of the promising outfielder broke the hearts of Cardinal’s fans and baseball fans alike and also put the Cardinal’s season in jeopardy.

Luckily the team was able to use the loss as their motivation, which led to the Cardinal’s best season start since 1887 by winning 22 of their first 29 games!

This form carried on for the rest of the season and caused for the St. Louis baseball team to be the first team in Major League Baseball to reach 50 wins in the 2015 season. They did it in record time aswell, conqoring a record that stood for the past decade and was held by the Chicago White Sox in 2005.

Along with records reached as a team, there were solo records that were broken by Cardinal’s players aswell. Thanks to Matt Holiday, who reached base every game for his first 45 games of the season.

Our season was playing out just how we wanted it to, however we caught a glimpse of the end in late September when catcher Yadier Molina injured his hand. Supposed to be out for the remainder of the season, Yadi returned just in time for the playoffs with a split on his thumb, unfortunately it was too late.

This season they compiled a 100-62 regular season record. This is the first time the Cardinals have won 100 games since 2005, and the first time any team has since the New York Yankees back in the 2009 season.

Making this MLB landmark is thanks to contributions from players both old and new. The Cardinals had veterans like Matt Carpenter and Jason Heyward with more than 40 home runs combined this season, alongside young promising talents such as Stephen Piscotty, Randal Grichuk, and Carlos Martinez.

Piscotty is a 24-year-old left fielder who joined the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this year in July 2015. The power hitter has made a big impact on the team, batting above a .300 during his rookie year.

Next to Piscotty we have Randal Grichuk who joined back in April 2014. He has also taken the MLB by storm by also batting above .300, and astonishing .315.

Leading the team is 24-year-old Carlos Martinez. Pitching to Molina, the duo has reached almost 200 strikeouts in a single season. Hopefully his talent will shine that well next season.

After a season of setting records and reaching accomplishments only achievable by a few, the St.Louis Cardinals are definitely a team to be reckoned with during the 2016 season. With Molina returning and the resigning of Jason Heyward, expect some very satisfying results from your favorite Major League Baseball team.
