PJ Ellis showing his school spirit during homecoming spirit week

“I believe that we will win!  I believe that we will win!”  Parkway South Patriot fans here this chant every year at the Homecoming Football Game and Pep Rally held right here on South Campus.

Homecoming has been a huge event for South’s history ever since they opened their doors in 1976.  Every year the themes of Homecoming bring surprises to everyone.  This year the theme was ‘Superhero’.

During Spirit Week students had the chance to dress up in theme everyday to show their school spirit.  Tuesday’s theme was ‘Camoflauge’, and students dressed in all camouflage with painted faces.  Wednesday’s theme was ‘Color Day’, and students wore certain color to separate grade levels.  Freshman wore blue, sophomores wore white, juniors wore blue and seniors wore orange.   Thursday was ‘Throwback Thursday’ and students dressed up in throwback outfits.  To conclude Spirit Week students came to school covered in red, white, and blue to show off their Patriot Pride.

During Spirit Week there is a ‘Pep Rally’ located at the stadium during students Ac Lab.  During the pep rally there are performances from the varsity football cheerleaders, junior varsity cheerleaders, spirit of ‘76 band, Varsity and junior varsity patriettes, and senior lip sync’s.  Also during the pep rally the Homecoming Court was announced.

October 16th was the Homecoming football game and Parkway South played against the Parkway Central Colts and lost 37-0.

“I really enjoyed everyone from the school getting together in one place to celebrate.” said senior, TJ Delaney.  “It’s awesome seeing everyone having school spirit and wanting to be around their friends, the spirit was also unreal. It definitely exceeded my expectations but it was bittersweet since it was my last home high school football game to watch.”

Preparing for the homecoming dance is a huge part of the weekend.

“Well, I’m not the best at preparing for stuff like homecoming, but usually I wake up and clean the car, I go and get my corsage for my date, then I shower and make sure that I have everything ready, then I get dressed and go pick up my date and go to pictures at a friend’s house.  After pictures we go straight to the dance.” said TJ Delaney

“I usually spend  around $70 on a homecoming dress.” said sophomore, Sarah Andre. “In preparation for the dance I go and purchase shoes, get my nails done and do my makeup.”

October 17th was the dance and Gym A was decorated extremely well with a stage, strobe lights, tables for sitting, and beverages.

“The homecoming theme was kind of childish, and the music could have been a little bit better, but I had a great time with all my friends.” said sophomore, Ben Applebaum

Also after you checked in the school was decorated with the ‘Superhero’ theme.  Hallways were decorated with superhero wallpaper and signs that said “BAM”, “BOOM”, “POW” etc.

“The staff did a great job with homecoming this year as they do every year but one thing that I can suggest for homecoming in the future is to make a photobooth or something to entertain people when they aren’t in the gym dancing.” said senior, TJ Delaney.

A week before the Homecoming Pep Rally students voted for the 2015 Homecoming Court.  Parkway South’s Homecoming king and queen were seniors Yasmine Gholami and her escort Mauricio Farrell.
