How many years have you taught at South?: I have worked at South for 26 years. I worked another 2 years in the Mehlville School District.
Plans for retirement: My plans are to work part-time doing something where I don’t have to make any big decisions, and to do some traveling to things that I couldn’t do because they are during the school year. I’m a big “state fair” nerd and have plans to go to Missouri and Iowa this year, and Texas is on my bucket list.
Classes taught at South: Symphonic Bands 1 and 2, Symphonic Percussion, Chorus, AP Music Theory, Piano, and Guitar
What will you miss most about teaching?: The students are what I will miss most about teaching. The energy students give off keeps me feeling, if not young, at least keeps me from feeling super old. Getting to share the passion I had for music with others and knowing they will pass it on to other generations has been awesome.
Favorite South tradition/event: I have loved the idea of the Patriot Posse. Students supporting students during sporting events is just awesome! I grew up in a small town where school spirit was everything, and the Posse works to keep that going at South. I have also loved the work that South does to make everyone feel welcome and like they have a place at South High. The sheer number of clubs, athletics, and music groups creates a small niche for everyone who wants to find one.
