Most basketball players dream about reaching 1,000 points in their high school career, but not very many are able to. However, two Lady Patriots hit their 1,000 career points this year to accompany their special senior season.

Seniors Alivia McCulla and Annalise Dorr reached 1,000 points this season and it was unforgettable for both of them. McCulla was the 13th girl in Parkway South history to hit 1,000 points with Dorr taking the 14th spot just weeks later.

McCulla hit the mark in the Parkway Central gym during a tipoff game at the beginning of the season. Although the game was not at home, this did not make the accomplishment any less remarkable.

“I thought it was really amazing that my teammates had all helped me to that point,” McCulla said.

Dorr had a different experience hitting 1,000 points, as she was able to reach this feat during a home game. The game was in Gym C against Kirkwood and Dorr knew she was going to hit 1,000 in this game.

“It was a lifetime goal of mine so it was very surreal and everything just kind of stopped for a minute,” said Dorr. “My mom made me a poster so that felt good and her being able to support me was nice.”

Not only is this season special because both girls hit 1,000 points, but it is also their last season playing basketball as Lady Patriots. The seniors on this year’s team have been playing together for about 7 years, making this last season together so memorable.

“I have been playing with these girls for quite some time and it’s our last season together, so it’s really nice to finish together but also sad that this is our last time playing together,” said McCulla.

There are seven seniors on the varsity team this year and they have all been playing together since 5th grade on the Future Lady Patriots team. The family bond that the team has was said to be McCulla and Dorr’s favorite part of playing basketball for South.

“This is a great season because I knew we had a chance to be good and everything is falling together. Our depth is helping us out and we have 7 seniors on the team. Seniors are really tough to beat at the end of the year because they’ve been playing and these are their last games. Where we’re at I’m happy and I’m looking forward to the end of the year,” Coach Williams said of the team this year.

Not only did McCulla and Dorr hit 1,000 career points, but they are also up on the record sheets in other categories as well. McCulla is third in South history for rebounds and eighth in scoring at South for girls’ basketball. Dorr also excels in the weight room and has set a girls’ deadlift record by lifting 405 lbs.

Their basketball careers will not end here. McCulla will be taking her talents to Kansas City next year to play for Rockhurst University. Dorr plans on playing basketball at a Division 2 or Division 3 university next year, but she is still unsure where that will be.
