With the cross country season starting up, the boys are hoping to have a successful year. According to head coach Ted Faulhaber, the 50-man team is looking really strong this year.

With many strong runners returning this year, such as Nicky Matteucci, who was All-State, finishing 18th at the State Meet in 2014, and Ryan Bode who just narrowly missed state, the boys are hoping to make a statement of this year’s talent. However, head coach Faulhaber mentioned how hard it would be to make state this year.

“We are in the toughest district around here with schools like Marquette, DeSmet, Parkway West, and defending state champion Lafayette,” said Faulhaber. One thing to look forward to in this upcoming season is just the number of guys joining the team. This year 15 freshmen joined the team, the largest turnout in at least ten years.  This is a big boost to the cross country team considering the more people that run, the better results the team will have.

“The boys look considerably more prepared this year than last year,” said Faulhaber.

Returning junior Connor Travers is also excited and hopes to do well in this upcoming season.

“The people are fun to be around,” said Travers. “We as a team have developed a bond and have conditioned both our bodies and minds for this upcoming season.”

While the boys have their dreams high hoping to make it to state they know that at the end of the day if they hope to achieve their goals they are gonna have to work hard and run with heart.
