Top+10+Movies+of+All+Time

Arguably, you can say that movies have become the cornerstone of entertainment in America and maybe even in the whole world. As the Treaty’s resident movie guy, here are my top 10 best movies of all time:

#10. Walk The Line (2005) 136 min. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon. A movie about the life and struggles of Johnny Cash, this movie deserves to be recognized as a top 10 movie because of its incredible acting and character embodiment by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon who both seemed to fill the screen with passion and the power of the characters they are portraying.

#9. Cast Away (2000) 143 min. Starring Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt. A lonely survivor, an island, a volleyball named Wilson, and coconuts. Sounds pretty boring? Not at all, for those of you who have seen Cast Away we immediately feel for Chuck Noland, a Fedex troubleshooter who ends up stranded on an island after some unfortunate events. Plus you can’t forget Wilson, the volleyball who is Chuck’s only friend while isolated. I mean, who doesn’t like a bloody volleyball with a face that is one of only two characters for an hour of a movie?

# 8. Up (2009) 96 min. Starring Ed Asner, Jordan Nagai, Christopher Plummer. Grumpy, old Carl Fredricksen owns a house in the middle of urban epicenter. Holding a promise he made to his late wife, he travels down to Paradise Falls in South America and takes his house with him. The only animated movie on my list of favorites, this is a funny, sad, and touching movie about family and friends, Up hits home. A different, more touching and close to home Disney movie, this one will always be a family favorite.

#7 Tombstone (1993) 130 min. Starring Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott, Val Kilmer. Lawman Wyatt Earp along with his family and Doc Holliday clean up the streets of Tombstone, Arizona which has come under attack by a local gang called the Cowboys. Kurt Russell plays a total BA in this movie as Wyatt Earp. Val Kilmer does a good job as well and delivers some famous lines that definitely add to this classic western.

#6 There Will Be Blood (2007) 158 min. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano. A businessman, Daniel Plainview, strikes oil in Midwestern America and makes a multi-million dollar business out of drilling and selling oil across the U.S. Problem is, Daniel Plainview wants no one else to succeed but him. Daniel Day-Lewis portrays a dark, sick, and twisted character who helps propel this movie into one of the best of all time.

#5 The Dark Knight (2008) 152 min. Starring Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger. Arguably the best superhero movie of all time, and the sequel to the already impressive Batman Begins, Christian Bale returns to Gotham to battle to Joker (Heath Ledger), who plans to ultimately destroy the whole city and send it into chaos. Heath Ledger’s best performance before his death, and Christian Bale does just as good of a job embodying Batman.

#4 The Blues Brothers (1980) 133 min. Starring Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, James Brown. The Blues Bros. Jake (Belushi) and Elwood (Aykroyd) Blues hit the streets of Chicago to raise money to save the orphanage they grew up in by getting their blues band back together to play shows around town. Hilarious and witty, The Blues Brothers will make you laugh and sing along all while wishing you were part of the fun while they tear up Chicago. It won a Golden Reel Award for best sound effects.

#3 The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly (1966) 161 min. Starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef. The Good (Eastwood), the Bad (Van Cleef), and the Ugly (Eli Wallach), all meet up and some what team up together for a short while to find a buried treasure of a late civil war soldier. The best western of all time and the movie that made Eastwood famous, suspenseful and full of action, this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. It won a Laurel Award (Best Actor in Action Role) for Clint Eastwood.

#2 Forrest Gump (1994) 142 min. Starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise. Forrest Gump (Hanks), a mentally disabled yet very smart man who witnesses and is in almost every major American event from 1950 to 1990, from the Vietnam War to the Civil Rights Movement and all the way to Hurricane Carmen. Tom Hanks’ best movie and best role of all time, this might be the most entertaining and one of the most touching movies of all time. We see the view of the Vietnam War and many other events from a first-person perspective. Definitely worth while to watch, this will always be an American Classic and one of the best movies of all time. Forrest Gump won 6 oscars for Best Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Picture, Best Actor in Leading Role, Best Director, and Best Writing.

#1 The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 142 min. Starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Andy Dufresne (Robbins) gets wrongly accused of killing his wife and gets thrown in jail. Red (Freeman) welcomes Andy in and eventually life in Shawshank becomes a mental struggle for both of them as they battle other inmates and the warden and officers running the prison. The Shawshank Redemption might be the most inspirational, mentally frightening, and passionate movie of all time. Phenomenal acting by Freeman and Robbins makes this a movie to remember and a movie for the ages. This timeless masterpiece has been ranked as the best movie by multiple websites and people throughout the world that just helps add its place in movie history. It was nominated for 7 oscars, but sadly won none.
