Look, the season has been less than ideal for the football team as they are 0-7. But it doesn’t mean they aren’t trying, folks. Students need to stop ragging on the football team and its players.
I have seen a concerning trend. That trend is people making fun of the football team.
These guys are not going out there and trying to lose on purpose. They go out there and try their hardest each week.
Although the record doesn’t reflect it, there are still many bright spots to look at.
Gabe Burtch, junior wide receiver, has 18 catches for 142 yards. That comes out to almost 8 yards per catch, which is pretty good.
Right next to Burtch on the line of scrimmage, sophomore wide receiver Will Garthe has put up some pretty solid numbers. He has 9 catches for 123 yards, which is 13.7 yards per catch. Both of these receivers have been pivotal in the passing attack for the Patriots and will only grow and develop going into the next football season.
On the defensive side of the football, Jeremiah McAfee, junior safety, leads the team with 2 interceptions and has been impressive, and still has another year left of playing for the Patriots.
And finally, you can’t forget about the junior kicker, Brayden Thomas, who has three field goals this year and has been consistent for the Patriots’ special teams.
We are sitting in the stands, and the players are out there in the trenches fighting for the Patriot red, white, and blue.
If you have so much to say about the team, why don’t you try out next year?
I’m sure we all hear it in our classes. Students who know nothing about football and don’t even play a sport at all love to make fun of our football team. They don’t realize that sometimes our football players are in those same classes, listening to your criticism. How do you think those comments make them feel? They’re out there putting their bodies on the line and getting injured, and then have to listen to people make fun of them in the classroom!! These unfair comments also hurt the football program in general. People aren’t going to want to play for a team if they’re going to get ridiculed by their own peers.
The other disrespectful trend I have seen is that most of the Posse has been leaving at halftime. Imagine being on the field, and as soon as the second half starts, about 90% of your fans leave. It’s very depressing for these players who are trying their hardest and going all out. After the homecoming game, attendance dropped significantly. Our Posse simply gave up on our football team, and it’s honestly very sad. Yes, I know we may not be winning a ton of games, but these players still deserve our support. We can not be fair-weather fans.
My question to the fans is, what if the basketball team in a few months doesn’t meet expectations? Starts 0-3? Are we gonna give up on them, too?
Now that the calendar is moving toward November, boys basketball seaon will be starting. I urge my fellow Patriots to give more respect to the boys basketball team than we did to the football team. Do not give up on the team after a rough start. Stay the course, ride the wave, and stick with the team!
The Patriots have two more football games left. They have time to improve and grow for next season.
The message I have to my fellow Patriots is to stay the course. This team is young and by next season will be much better.
Well, next year the culture around this team is gonna change, this team is gonna fight and outperform all the haters’ expectations.
If you were not with us when we were at the bottom, we don’t want you to be with us when we are at the top next season.
