The wait is over. The time is now. The Muppets are coming to Broadway.
A feat that no one ever thought would happen is finally happening. From the directorial vision of illusionist Rob Lake, he will be bringing the acclaimed and revered muppets on stage with him at the Broadhurst Theater. The show is called “Rob Lake Magic with special guest the Muppets.” The show will run Oct. 28-Jan 18.
Rob Lake was a quarter-finalist on America’s Got Talent in 2018. He is a talented performer, entertaining audiences with his clever tricks and his outstanding delivery. Now, for his next project, he is bringing the Muppets on stage with him.
“I am actually really excited for this,” said junior Therese Bathgate. “I love the Muppets, I love the movies, I love the characters, I love the songs.”
The Muppets incorporate many influential pieces of media in their films. Created by famous puppeteer Jim Henson, The Muppets have been a fixture in American culture since in 1955. They have starred in hilarious movies like “Muppets take Manhattan” and who can forget the best version of A Christmas Carol, 1992’s “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” Famous Muppets include Kermit The Frog, Miss Piggy and Animal.
The Muppet movies are known for the comedy as well as the memorable songs.
“I really hope it has ‘Man or Muppet.’” senior Ella Yoder said. “Like I genuinely love that song so so much. I unironically have been listening to ‘Man or Muppet’ for like maybe five years. When I listen to it…I like to imagine part of me becomes a Muppet. I don’t know how else to describe it.”
Senior Mariam Rana also agreed with Yoder on the hit song, which won an Oscar for Best Original Song.
“It’s just something so extraordinary,” she said.
Rob Lake has been a critically acclaimed performer for several years now. As well as being an accomplished quarter-finalist on America’s Got Talent, he helped design things for Adele, Sesame Street Live, Film and Television, and even some Broadway shows including “Aladdin,” and “Death Becomes Her.”
Others didn’t really know much about the Muppets. Freshman Riley Miele was intrigued when interviewed, “I don’t really know much about the Muppets. But I know they’re pretty fun. I’ll make sure to watch it.”
Rob Lake has said that the show will incorporate Kermit and his friends.
Yoder says she hopes they bring them all on, “I just really need Ms. Piggy up there. I also need Jason Segal, Walter, Animal, and like the rest of the crew.”
Many are excited to see what Rob Lake will do with this production at the Broadhurst Theater. I know many are excited to see how he will incorporate the heartwarming muppets into his production. Additionally, many are hoping it will feature the song “Man or Muppet.”
“If it has ‘Man or Muppet’ I will go fly out to see it,” said Yoder. “Not joking.”
