Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake, the buzzy dessert spot known for its Hungarian chimney cakes (a.k.a. Kürtőskalács), has become the talk of the town in Ballwin, bringing sweet, spiraled pastries and viral treats to Manchester Road.
What initially started as a family-run food truck in Tampa, Florida in 2022 has grown into a full-blown sugar rush. Twisted Rolls has two permanent locations, one in Tampa and one in St. Louis, both open seven days a week.
Despite its rising popularity, Twisted Rolls is easy to miss. It’s tucked in a small corner at the end of a strip mall, but that hasn’t stopped it from quickly becoming one of the area’s most popular dessert destinations
For those who have never visited, the Twisted Rolls menu is packed with options for everyone: milkshakes, crepes, waffles, mini pancakes, smoothies, and bubbly Italian sodas. And, of course, they serve an array of flavorful ice creams.
I first discovered Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake while getting my prom suit tailored at Anthony Polizzi Tailor Shop, located in the same strip mall. As I was leaving, I noticed a line of about 30 people stretching outside the Twisted Rolls’ entrance and wrapping around the building. Naturally, my curiosity led me to walk over to see what the fuss was about.
I approached a woman in line and asked what everyone was waiting for. Her answer? The viral Dubai Strawberries.
Yes, Dubai Strawberries. I’d never tried them before, but I’ve seen it all over social media, so I hopped in line right behind her, and I’m glad I did.
This Dubai Strawberry treat is $15 indulgence that features a large cup of fresh strawberries layered with rich milk chocolate, smooth pistachio sauce, crushed pistachios, and crispy kunafa, a shredded and toasted filo pastry. Kunafa is what gives the viral Dubai chocolate bar its signature crunch.
Though the price may seem steep, it’s absolutely worth it. Even with the crowd and long line, my order arrived within minutes. I will definitely be returning with friends all summer long.
Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake may be known for their viral hits, but their classic Hungarian chimney cakes deserve just as much attention. I tried one of the traditional chimney cakes ($9.99), a hollow, spiral-shaped pastry that’s perfectly airy and coated in a caramelized sugar crust. It was simple, delicious, and totally satisfying.
Looking for something more filling? Their crepes, waffles, and mini pancakes ($10.99) are fantastic options, customizable with toppings like Nutella, pistachio, lotus, or Reese’s, and you can even load up your treat with a scoop of ice cream on top.
Inside, the shop has a cozy vibe, with a bright illuminated sign on the back wall displaying photos of their nine ice cream cone flavors. But don’t expect a typical cone. These are elevated chimney cake cones, made from their classic chimney cakes, but brushed with butter and rolled in toppings that match the flavor ice cream you choose.
One customer passed by me with an Oreo Cone that looked like a work of art. Naturally, I had to get one. And it exceeded all expectations. The cone reminded me of a cross between a funnel cake and a donut. It was filled with vanilla ice cream, topped with chocolate sauce, crushed Oreos, and even a whole Oreo for flair. It was a dessert perfection.
As summer approaches, Twisted Rolls’ deserts are the perfect treats. Whether you’re searching for a cozy dessert stop or a unique new experience in St. Louis, Twisted Rolls Chimney Cake offers a sweet blend of traditional Hungarian flavors and imaginative modern creations.
