Many know that a car’s look is an important piece of the ever-so-complicated puzzle when searching for a vehicle to drive. Yet, some cars are better than others on paper. Yet one vehicle can look ‘cooler’ than another. But this highlights the question. How do you determine whether a car is ‘cool’ or not?
While there’s no scientific way of determining a vehicle’s “cool factor,” people’s opinions are the best way to determine if a car is better looking than another.
Senior Kaden Glaspie drives a 2022 Bronco Sport Heritage sporting a robin egg blue paint job. In comparison, senior Ahmed Essoufi drives a 2023 chrome Audi A4 Quattro. Both these cars can be found good looking, yet the only way to determine a winner is to ask the public.
Junior Dean Ullom gave his comments on which car he preferred.
“Although the Bronco is a much safer vehicle, I appreciate the attention to detail and the artistic take on the Audi,” he said.
While Ullom appreciated the look of the Audi, sophomore Sanjay Manteuffel had the opposite opinion.
“[Glaspies Ford Bronco] got a nice color and it’s more eye-catching and I feel like the functionality would be a little bit better,” he said.
While some look at a car’s looks, many look beyond the vehicle’s paint, wheels, and body to see how the cars are made.
School Resource Officer Travon Green gave his opinion on the two cars.
“Between the two, it would have to be the Quattro. I’m not a big fan of Ford and the way they’ve been developing their vehicles. They’ve gone downhill,” he said.
While some look at the looks and production of vehicles, some choose to look at the practicality of the car’s everyday uses.
“I feel like Ahmed’s car is built more for speed and maybe a race but I feel like Glaspie’s car is more of an everyday car,” Manteuffel said.
Glaspie talked about why he likes his Bronco.
“I don’t feel limited, I can go over curbs like if I miss my entrance I can go where I need to go. But with Ahmed’s car, I like how quick it is, it very, zero to sixty in like 3 seconds,” Glaspie said.
Essoufi gave his opinion on why he liked his car so much.
“One thing I like about my car is that its speakers are like wonderful, like beautiful, like on point,” Essoufi said.
Every car is going to have its benefits and disadvantages. While Essoufi’s car has really good top speed and acceleration, its low clearance can lead to some trouble.
“He [Essoufi] just recently hit a pothole that messed up his tire and cost him about $1,500 maybe $2,000,” Glaspie said.
No matter the car, everyone is going to have their own opinion on different categories. Furthermore, the car’s owner has a reason they drive it, so maybe the only way to truly rank cars is from the owner’s opinion.
Senior Katriel Schjenken said gave his unbiased opinion on the cars.
“For looks, I’d have to give Glaspies’ car eight out of ten. Ahmed’s [car] six out of ten. For how it’s made, Ahmed’s car is seven out of ten, and Glaspie’s car is seven out of ten. Then practicality for the Bronco, six out of ten, and Ahmed’s car five out of ten,” Schjenken said.
