Being inducted into your high school’s Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor! This past school year, two Parkway South softball seniors had the opportunity to achieve this prestigious recognition, and both are committed to continuing their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Seniors Elle Haston and Madison Sherry were inducted into the Parkway South Softball Hall of Fame. Haston is committed to McKendree University, while Sherry is committed to Missouri Baptist University.
Sherry earned the title of Co-Pitcher of the Year in the Suburban Red Conference and was named First-Team All-Conference Pitcher and First-Team All-District Pitcher for Class 5, District 2. Haston, on the other hand, was recognized as a First-Team All-Conference Infielder and a First-Team All-District player for Class 5, District 2.
The Patriot softball team had a strong season this fall, finishing with a 17-12 record and securing second place in Class 5, District 2.
Haston is a two-time First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-District honoree. She played a crucial role in leading her team to the district championship this season, where the Patriots finished as runners-up.
In her senior year Haston hit 4 home runs, had 42 total hits and led the team with the highest average of .684. Sherry, on the pitching side of the diamond, sported an allowed 0 home runs and had 187 strikeouts.
“I think we played better than what our coaches expected us to play and overall it was a great year,” said Sherry.
As a junior, Haston also earned First-Team All-District honors and led her team in doubles, breaking the single-season doubles record. Her success has taken her to the next level as she prepares to continue both her academic and athletic career at McKendree University.
Haston shared info about her role models in sports, Haston shared:
“My cousins played, and I wanted to be good like them. I’ve always liked watching my cousins and family members play,” Haston said.
Haston also reflected on her favorite memory from high school softball.
“Going to the district championship my senior year—just getting that experience with my favorite girls—was the best experience ever,” she said.
Sherry also commented on her favorite memories.
“Probably just the relationships we made with all of our teammates and all of the fun memories we made,” said Sherry.
Sherry spoke about how being part of the team shaped her high school experience.
“It made me appreciate high school softball more, and being with your friends every day is such a blessing,” she said.
One of the biggest challenges she faced was competing against tough opponents.
“Our most difficult games this season were against Eureka and Parkway West. They were both very good teams, and holding onto the lead was difficult but very rewarding,” she said.
Maddie and her twin sister Abbie will continue to play softball at the next level.
“I feel great because there’s not many twin pitching catchers in the softball career so we’re gonna make history probably,” Maddie said.
Finally, Haston and Sherry shared how they felt when they learned they were inducted into the Hall of Fame.
“I felt really honored and grateful to be inducted. It’s such a cool opportunity. I didn’t know we had one for softball but I was shocked and honored to be in it,” Sherry said.
