Are you Muslim or would you like to learn more about Islam, join the Muslim Student Association?
Junior Sara Alshunnaq is a member of the Muslim Student Association and commented on why she joined.
“So they can promote Islamic values and understanding about Islam in the MSA Club (Muslim Student Association),” she said.
Senior Afia Haneef is also a member of MSA. She talked about why she thinks others should join as well.
“So they can learn more about Islam and make new friends. I also want people to join this club so that they can build a sense of community and they can practice their religion openly,” Haneef said.
Senior Nemet Sheikh is the president of MSA this year, and senior Madina Eagal is vice president. The sponsor of the club is ESOL teacher Whitney Wilhelm
Junior Ayan Sajid is another MSA member
“It is good to keep the Muslim community united and spread Islam,” he said.
He also said he encourages others to join.
“So that people can learn more about Islam and engage in cultural activities,” he said.
Wilhelm talked about how she became the sponsor of MSA. She said everyone is welcome at their meetings. They meet once a month during ac. lab in her classroom.
She also said that meetings are going well so far.
“I am very impressed by the organization that leaders have and how many people are excited to come to meetings,” she said.
Sajid talked about the volunteer opportunities in MSA.
“So that they can volunteer in activities and in Ramadan and they can get to know more deeply about Islam,” Sajid said.
Haneef said that the purpose of MSA is also to ensure a safe space for Muslim students to get together as a community.
“I know people in the MSA club are working hard to plan upcoming events such as Ramadan, Eid parties and stuff like that,” said Alshunaaq.
