Far too many friends have turned to each other after an excellent joke or interesting thought was shared and said “We should start a podcast!,” but what happens when they actually follow through with it?
Meet Jack Caratenuto and Tanner Roath, two juniors deciding to start up a podcast called ‘The Personality Hires’, and adopting the title “The Official Podcast of Parkway South High.”
Caratenuto and Roath cover a wide variety of topics with the help of their producers, Izzie Rigeurio and myself. Izzie and I focus on more behind-the-scenes things like planning episodes, editing, and making promotional materials, though we do sometimes star in episodes. The personalities cover things ranging from current news at school and pop culture, as well as having an advice column to help out their peers at South High, all while letting their personal opinions and voices make the podcast their own.
I met up with Jack and Izzie to talk a little more about the podcast.
Q- How did you guys decide to make this podcast?
JC: So, me and Tanner would sit in journalism and play cool math games, and like sit there and riff jokes off each other for an hour and a half. We were like, we could? This could be fun!
Q- How did you guys come up with the name?
JC: We were just talking about, like, our role in the journalism department, so we were like: What would be our role? We would be the personality hires!
LW: Lightbulb!
Q- What’s your favorite part of making the podcast?
JC: Getting to sit with my buds, every week, and just giggle and laugh.
IR: I like getting to hear all the stuff that no one else gets to hear. There’s some stuff that has to get cut, but I get to hear it, and it’s really funny. And I just think it’s fun to edit and it’s fun to hear them bounce off each other.
Q- How would you convince anyone reading this to listen?
JC: If you’ve ever laughed and found anything funny before, you will appreciate the podcast. Actually no, if you’re like: “my school’s so freaking boring and we don’t do anything, and everything is boring and dumb,” listen to our podcast.
IR: I would say that it’s a very target audience for Parkway students, especially Parkway South, because we talk about stuff that goes on in the school, and like just stuff that’s going on in our age group.
