The Patriots are fueling up, and getting their bodies and minds into gear for the year with the new “Patriot Pit Stop.”
The Patriot Pit Stop is the newest South business venture; it is open during Ac. Lab on most Wednesdays and sells items like cookies, Gatorade, coffee, and other snacks. It also has seasonal items like pumpkin spice lattes. So far students are loving this new addition to Ac. Lab time.
“I have loved having the Pit Stop, I am the number 1 fan of the French vanilla latte,” said junior Avery Godwin.
Everything at the Pit Stop does cost money, but the prices are $4 for a coffee, $2 for a soda, $3 for a Gatorade or a Kickstart and $1-$2 for all food items. This is also a way for students in business classes and clubs to practice working with customers and building relationships.
The Pit Stop is completely student-run, with the help of Amy Boscan. Boscan teaches Marketing 1, and 2 and is also a sponsor of DECA. In addition, Boscan said student workers who work at the Pit Stop actually earn a semester CTE credit toward graduation.
“I really enjoy working at the pit stop because of all the energy that the other workers bring, and how everyone leaves the Pit Stop with a smile on their face,” senior Alyssa Bryant said.
The Patriot Pit Stop is one of South’s first “stores” or businesses to be active during school hours. Boscan was already very prepared about how something like this would work.
“When I was a district coordinator, at Central High School they started the Colt Cafe. Those were my teachers and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, so I worked with all the other high schools to create a shop and when I came back to South, I wanted to do the same,” Boscan said.
Boscan was the person who oversaw Career and Tech Ed in Parkway, but last year she came back to South to teach Marketing 1 and 2 again. When she returned to the classroom, Boscan took surveys of what students would like to buy, and started up the Pit Stop.
“I am so excited to see where this business goes and I have a good feeling about it,” Boscan said.
