The transition from middle school to high school is a significant milestone in a student’s life. Freshmen enter high school with a mix of excitement and apprehension, eager to explore new opportunities while facing the challenges of a more demanding academic and social environment.
New Freshman Principal Max Mittler said he is excited and ready to help freshmen succeed.
One big thing about enjoying high school is being involved, according to Mittler.
“My goal is to have at least every freshman involved in one sport before the end of the school year,” Mittler said.
Mittler has been putting smiles on a few freshman faces. Freshman Brian Boyland gave his comments on the new principal.
“He’s a good principal and he takes care of the South Community and all freshmen and helps out with everything, keeps everything inside intact and shows grit,” he said.
But why come to Parkway South? Mittler was a science teacher at Affton High School for 20 years before moving into a principal role at South.
“The fact that it is a well-known high-achieving school district; I like the idea of working at a bigger school with a diverse population and I knew Dr. Pappas-Muyco was pretty cool,” he said.
Mittler also said everybody has been very kind and helpful, which has made the transition much easier.
Other principals are also excited with the decision of Mittler as principal.
“Well, there was a little sadness with the departure of Mrs. Perkins but Mr. Mittler has been an amazing addition to our school and the administrative team,” said Assistant Principal Jenn Sebold.
Mittler so far has been great at finding all kinds of ways to stay active here in the South.
“I think that we have really strong staff including great administrators and Mr. Mittler fits in so well. he’s always willing to jump in and take on responsibility even when we don’t ask him specifically to do it. For instance when we were having issues with restrooms in the morning being locked or unlocked he just went and checked them on his own even when no one asked him to do so, so it’s a sign of good things to come with him here,” said Sebold.
