If you visit music teacher Eric Menderski’s 7th block Music Production class, you might run into the next Drake or Tyla.
One student who produces music at South High is sophomore Gabe Hudson.
Many students who produce music start off with friends first introducing them to production.
Another student who works on music outside of school is sophomore Tayden Travis. Travis also produces rap music. Travis, unlike other student artists, goes to a studio to create his songs.
Travis commented on how he got started making music.
“I found something that I liked, and was good at. My friends were the ones who inspired me to start rapping,” Travis said.
Travis, just like Hudson, had claimed that music production does not affect his school life or grades. He also said he never has been taught by anyone.
“No, not really, it just came to me like trying something new,” he said.
But music production isn’t just about verbally creating music, most music production also involves creating beats, that if they are good, can be used to make verbal music.
Another student who makes music is sophomore Isaiah Scott. Scott says that a big part inspiration comes from his older cousin, who also makes music.
“My cousin was my inspiration for making music,” Scott said.
At South there is actually a class for budding musicians, called Music Production. This year the class is taught by Menderski. Menderski is a new teacher who said he has never taught a class like Music Production.
“Even though I’m not used to it, I get to learn with the students and have fun with it,” Menderski said.
In the Music Production class students learn how to listen to a song and recreate the beat from scratch, and make their own beats.
“Students can use their beats outside of school to sell to artists that later use them for songs,” he said.
The Music Production class uses the computers in the room, that pair well with the software they use called Logic Pro.
If you would like to work on music production or even just try it out once then you should try Music Production, and take Menderski’s class.
“I thought you needed to take a class on Music Production, and I felt unqualified, but I have learned and it’s been fun teaching Music Production,” Menderski said.
