Now that the South High Varsity field hockey season is over let’s go over how the season went and what is going to happen to the star players.
The coach of the field hockey team, Dave Richardson said the team luckily isn’t graduating a lot of players on offense.
“We will have a very strong senior return, especially for the offensive side,” he said.
Richardson said everyone on the team knew their designated role this season.
“Everyone feels like they have a purpose on the team,” Richardson said.
Senior Adison Irace says she has a teammate to thank for her joining the team.
“I started playing in freshman year and started playing because of Maddie Bollinger,” Irace said. Irace was one of the offensive leaders this season with 8 goals scored and 9 assists.
Senior midfielder Maddie Bollinger said she started playing the sport at an early age.
“I was encouraged to play field hockey in 3rd grade by my mom,” she said. Bollinger scored 1 goal and had 7 assists this season.
Sophomore Emily Muchnick was the goalie for this year’s team and sported a .563 save percentage. She said her favorite place to play the sport was right here at South High. Muchnick, like Irace, Muchnick started playing field hockey during freshman year when her friends encouraged her to try field hockey.
“I think that the team did really good this season,” Muchnick said.
This year’s team was led by Irace, Bollinger, and Muchnick and coached by Richardson. The Patriots’ record this season was 9-7 which not only marked the end of the season, but also marked the end of the three star players’ high school career on the field hockey team.
“The best part about playing field hockey was all the friends you make,” Muchnick said.
