Charlotte+Lebbing--Opinions+Editor

Charlotte Lebbing–Opinions Editor

What position/positions did you have on staff?

I think I may have technically been a managing editor junior year but it didn’t come to anything because we pretty much only worked on the yearbook because of the pandemic. I’ve mainly been an Opinions writer. This year I was the Opinions Editor.

What was your first story you ever published in the Treaty? The last?

The first story was about the difference between high school and middle school. The last story I wrote was about the recent uptick of conservative laws censoring students and educators.

What was your favorite thing about being on staff the last four years?

My favorite thing in these past four years is the moment it clicks how best to word or structure the story I’m working on. From there, it flows out easier and becomes more fun.

Out of all your stories that were published in the newspaper, which one was your favorite?

“Wedlocked”. It’s a story I wrote about child marriage in the United States. When I go back and read it now, I can see it has many flaws, but it is the story that made me realize it’s okay to talk about serious topics in the school newspaper. Since then, I have become increasingly less afraid of controversy.

What are you going to miss most about being on staff?

I’ll miss working with and getting to know other newspaper writers.

Do you plan on studying journalism in the future?

Nope!

Any words of advice for future staff?

Honestly, just show up and write. Newspaper isn’t hard.
