Dawn Murray–Librarian
What subject do you teach? “I am a librarian at PSH.”
What is it like teaching classes here at Parkway South? “I love being here and working with the staff and students! Each day is different, and everyone is so welcoming.”
When you’re not teaching, what do you like to do? “I am a Muber (mom-uber) when I’m not at PSH. You will find me carting my kiddos around to sporting events, club meetings, practices etc.”
Where did you receive your teaching education from? “I got my bachelor’s degree at Saint Louis University and my master’s from Lindenwood University.”
Why did you want to become a teacher? “ I love working with teens and educators! I love reading and analyzing literature, so teaching was a natural choice for me.”
How did you prepare for the beginning of the school year? “I came up frequently over the summer to familiarize myself with the building and start working with Mrs. Pendleton. We have a lot of new ideas for the PSH library, and we wanted to dive right in!”
What is your favorite part about teaching your subject? “Being a librarian means I get the best of both worlds… I get to work with students and support teachers. I love technology and books, so this is honestly the perfect fit for me.”
What are you most looking forward to this school year? “Meeting the awesome students and staff at PSH and supporting them from the library!”
Have you taught anywhere else before or is this your first year teaching? If so, where did you teach prior? “I taught English in the Francis Howell School district for 18 prior to getting my LMS certification and coming to Parkway South.”
Why did you choose to come teach at Parkway South? “ PSH has a very welcoming vibe. From the get-go, the people here went out of their way to get to know me and support me in this new position. I am grateful to be part of this awesome team!”
If you could teach any other subject, what would you choose and why? “ Being a high school librarian is exactly where I want to be.”
What has been the biggest challenge with teaching? “ The Pandemic has affected all aspects of education. Balancing restrictions/guidelines and the need for normalcy is a challenge in the library, just like the rest of the building. We want our students and staff to be here as much as possible! We can’t wait for the day when we don’t have to restrict seating and visits to the library.”
Who has been your biggest support through the beginning of your teaching journey? “Mrs. Pendleton, Mrs. Gebhard, Mrs. Pappas-Muyco, and Dr. Aitch have supported me throughout, and I appreciate it so much!”
Do you have anything else to add? I feel really lucky to be a Patriot!”
