Five years of anticipation is finally fulfilled with the releasing of Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter V.”

Currently “Tha Carter V” is in the top five streaming on Spotify with songs such as Mona Lisa topping the charts. Lil’ Wayne’s album features fellow artists like Xxxtentacion Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Gucci Mane, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg and more. With this comeback Lil Wayne revived his career bringing the spotlight back to him.

Popular songs in Wayne’s new album consist of Uproar, Mona Lisa, Let It fly, In This House, and plenty more. Some of my favorite songs are Uproar, Don’t Cry and Let It All Work Out, one thing these songs is the overall message of Don’t Cry and Let It All Out, pushing people to not give up on what they’ve worked for. However, at a party songs like Uproar and Mona Lisa are great songs to party to. “Tha Carter V” does an amazing job balancing songs with an important message to songs that you blindly listen to with your friends in the car at 2 a.m.

My final opinion on “Tha Carter V” is that it  has good music throughout however, there are a ton of songs that are plain and simple fillers that are not very good. I feel that Young Money Entertainment, the label that produced Wayne’s album, should have shortened it and removed some of the filler songs.

“I  like the song ‘Mona Lisa.’ it was a good song to turn up to,” said junior Charlie Appelbaum.

With “Tha Carter V” topping the Billboard Rap Top 10 for the biggest album of the year thus far, it has been a huge success for all fans of music. Lil Wayne changed the rap scene, using a simple beat with good lyrics rather than the recent fad of mumble rap.

“My least favorite song is ‘Don’t Cry’ featuring Xxxtentacion because it made me cry,” said junior Caroline Jensen.

Speaking on the controversy of “Don’t Cry” due to the early passing of Xxtenticaon; it was up for debate whether Lil’ Wayne should release the song with him. In the end Lil’ Wayne paid his respects to the late rapper releasing a heartfelt song that pushes everyone to move forward in their lives.

“I think the album overall had good music and was a good comeback for Lil Wayne’s career,” said Appelbaum.

Songs such as “Mona Lisa” and “Don’t Cry” have stayed at the top 100 songs since the release showing signs of being a timeless album for rap fans. However not everyone enjoyed Wayne’s new album.

“You know I wasn’t the biggest fan,” said Physics teacher Joe Kochbeck. “ I just don’t think he’s type of music is my type,” he said.

Tha Carter V has received mixed reviews from it’s fans, but a majority of people seem to enjoy Wayne’s new album. Overall good reviews has been coming Wayne’s way like from the Rolling Stones who said, “ It’s an album full of fire and passion from an artist who doesn’t have anything left to prove.”

“I’m actually really happy that this album was good I have a lot of respect for Lil’ Wayne and I’m glad he put himself back on the map,” said Appelbaum.
