English teacher Pat Conley

At South for the last 3 decades, Pat Conley has made his mark at Parkway South and has been a huge influence in many different parts of our school.

1) How long have you taught at South?

I’ve taught at South for 34 years.

2) What classes have you taught/ what have you been involved in over the years?

I’ve taught primarily the following classes: AP Literature, College Composition, English I, and English I / Read 180. I’ve coached track, soccer, and for the last fifteen or so years I’ve supervised the Weight Room after school. Before I came to South, I taught and coached at SLUH for over 10 years.

I was department chair of English for 14 years, and was the Coordinator of the Coaliton of Essential Schools Project here at South. I have also been in charge of professional development and have served as lead teacher in the summer school program for many a year.

3) What is/was your favorite thing about South students/ Parkway south?

My favorite feature about South is the caring acceptance of all students.

4) What will you miss the most?

I’ll miss the students the most. This year’s seniors have exemplified the best of Parkway: intellectually curious, confident in their abilities, capable intellectually, and very caring and accepting of others.

5) What are you plans following your retirement?

After retirement, I’ll get to spend more time with my seven children and nine grandchildren. I’ll also have time to write. I’ve written 18 books and I’d like to write 18 more. I already have started my next 2. I like to work on several projects at once.

6) Describe your time at South in one word

In one word–challenging.
