Patriots lose to Eureka, face Pioneers tonight
The Parkway South varsity football team heads to Kirkwood tomorrow to face the 4-1 Pioneers. This game is coming after a 38-0 loss to Eureka on Sept. 22.
But the defeat to the Wildcats wasn’t a total loss for the Patriots. Players like Ty Osby (9 tackles and 3 assists) and Christian Dacus ( 7 tackles and 6 assists) had strong defensive games.
Rosewell said teams like Eureka and Kirkwood are teams with large football programs that South won’t have to face in Districts. He said playing these teams will hopefully make us better, and give South an advantage against the teams that they will face in Districts, possibly leading us to the District’s Championship Game.
For Rosewell playing lots of teams with large programs is not to be expected in the future.
“When we are trying to get to Districts it’s all about trying to better yourself every week and don’t compare yourself against these guys [Eureka] compare yourself against yourself. Are you getting better because once we get to Districts it’s going to get much easier,” Rosewell said.
Dacus also agrees with this statement on how the team should try to better themselves after these tough games.
“I don’t know if facing all these big teams is fair, but in the long run when it comes to Districts time we’ll be prepared against weaker teams than what we’re facing right now,” Dacus said.
Because South’s game went unscored many people possibly thought that offence was lacking a drive in the game. But Rosewell will tell you the truth.
“Either way you look at it offence or defence, or special teams we were missing players because of injuries. And when your going up against a team like Eureka that does not have any injured players It’s gonna make it difficult no matter what,” Rosewell said.
Dacus also agrees with statement about the obstacles that South has faced this season.
“ I think it could’ve been easy for us to let them score more after it being 38 to nothing letting them score 30 more points, but I think we held strong as a team; and kept fighting till the end of the game,” Dacus said.
Some people might think that this game is just a mistake, but for Rosewell there are some things to take away from this game.
“We played a really good team [Eureka 2nd in the Class Six division] and made some pretty good plays against them, and we saw on film those good things. We just have to keep up with the consistency, and we gotta keep up those good things,” Rosewell said.
Dacus said he also agrees on how South needs keep improving their game and using these games to prepare for more even opponents.
“We just gotta prepare for opponents not like them, but better ourselves every game because it’s important for us to be ready,” he said.
