Roasting

According to many students, roasting is an upcoming trend. Some students roast others on a daily basis. There are up incoming roasting Tv shows that roast celebrities and famous figures. While some see roasting as mean, Senior Devin Jones says,“Others who can’t roast back consider roasting as bullying, I only roast with my friends so no one gets offended”

Roasting is a way of making fun each other without people’s feelings getting hurt. There are many different views of roasting. The roaster, the person making the joke on someone, the person being roasted, and the audience all play apart in making roasting bullying or not. Certain teachers are comfortable roasting with students, but other teachers believe it’s inappropriate.

One teacher known for roasting is business teacher Rob Bock. He believes roasting, “adds reality to the mundane day of school previty.”

Mr. Bock also said, “I get all my jokes from my head. I’m a lyrical gangster who uses a play on words to make students engaged.”

“Roasting happens between students a lot more. I roast a lot with my friends; I can roast with anybody because roasting is fun and helps me get away from school. I use my creativity to think of jokes that are the funniest,” Jones said.

“I don’t watch roasting shows, but I have heard of them,” multiple students and teachers said. Most students and teachers say they have heard of the roasting shows but don’t really watch them.

One example of a show that roast is Jeff Ross’s show roast battle which is shown on Comedy Central, and he has roasted multiple celebrities. People think his show is bad because he is insulting people without them being able to defend themselves. Not all people view roasting as just playing around or joking.

“I’m usually the one roasting my friend who starts roasting, but he gets roasted too. Everyone in his social circle roasts with him,” Jones said.

Senior Sean Jolliff also enjoys roasting, and being roasted.

“I’m usually the one getting roasted, but i’m comfortable roasting with, junior Devin Lane. It takes me a minute to come back; I usually have to process my thoughts to really get them good,” Jolliff said.

Social studies teacher Joe Rhodes says he often roasts with his friends, and friends that roast him are Mr. Williams and Mr. Weiss.

“Yes, my colleagues know me for roasting. It happens a lot with my friends,” said Rhodes.

However, he also said that roasting is not always fun.

“Roasting becomes bullying when it’s a one way streak, and you do it intentionally to be mean.” said both Bock and Rhodes.

Most people who roast says they have been in trouble for roasting and their are limitations to roasting. Roasting is no fun if you use it in a negative way. Teachers and students use roasting in a playful fun way to make the school day more fun.
