Cunetto House of Pasta

Cunetto House of Pasta has been a Saint Louis legend for more than forty years. Originally opened by two brothers, by the names of Vince and Joe Cunetto, it is now owned and operated by Frank Cunetto. Frank is the son of Vince and has been the owner ever since Vince passed the torch. Because of the deep family history this restaurant, it has always been great tasting every time I’ve eaten there. Not much has changed since my first time going to Cunetto’s, and that what fifteen years ago. Over those past fifteen years I’ve shared numerous birthdays, family dinners, and many special occasions at Cunetto’s. Out of all those times I’ve always left with a full stomach and relieved taste buds.

Cunetto’s restaurant is located in a historic part of Saint Louis called, “The Hill.” More specifically it is located west of Kingshighway at an address of 5453 Magnolia Ave. Saint Louis, MO 63139. Even though the drive down to this restaurant is a little on the long side, once you get there the food will be worth it. The Hill is the Italian capital of Saint Louis. The Hill is full of great Italian restaurants and Cunetto’s is the top dog. As some people say, Cunetto’s is the king of The Hill.

During my most recent visit to Cunetto’s I was accompanied by family members from out of town. This was their first visit to Cunetto’s and they loved it. My family was in town from Arizona and in Arizona the Italian food isn’t as good as it is in Saint Louis. Cunetto’s was something new that they could enjoy on their vacation. For the first time ever they got to experience the taste of a Saint Louis food legend, toasted ravioli. They were blown away with the taste of how good Cunetto’s food really is.

I have tried nearly every dish available at Cunetto’s and all of it tastes delicious. Whenever my family goes we usually get the same things and I encourage anyone who goes with their family to try this line up of food. For an appetizer we usually get an order of toasted ravioli, an order of eggplant parmesean, an order of the marinated shrimp, and finally an order of garlic cheese bread. Sometimes we will get an order of the calamari as well, but all of the appetizers are extremely good. For dinner I usually get the Bistecca alla Siciliana. This gourmet steak is cooked perfectly and served covered with mushroom sauce. Upon my first bite I am astonished with the amazing taste of the steak. It is amazing how throughout all my times of eating this food I am still blown away with the amazing taste. For dessert there are a few options that seem to be better than the rest. There is a regular cinnamon ice cream that tastes perfect. It’s rich and creamy and melts as soon as you put it in your mouth.. Even though it is probable just generic cinnamon ice cream, it is delicious from Cunetto’s. Another great dessert is the tiramisu. This three layer cake is topped with whip cream and a sweet seasoning that tastes like cinnamon. The cake is fluffy and just has enough icing to keep it from being dry. These desserts alone are enough to make you want to come back to Cunetto’s House of Pasta.

Cunetto’s has a semi formal dress code, which basically just restricts men from wearing sleeveless shirts. You can tell that the dress code is enforced because everyone in Cunetto’s is dressed in nice clothes and there aren’t people dressed for a place like Mcdonald’s. The decor of the restaurant consists of many pictures of the Cunetto family. The pictures show how much family and tradition mean to Cunetto’s House of Pasta. You can tell that the deep roots that have been planted into the making of this restaurant allow for spectacular food and experiences every time you go. The servers that work at Cunetto’s have always been top notch. I have been to Cunetto’s so many times my family is now on a first name basis with our favorite waiter. This is a good thing because it shows that they actually care about us and it overall brings us back to Cunetto’s. Hiring the right people is good for business.

I think that everyone should be able to experience Cunetto’s House of Pasta so they can see what great food tastes like. Not only the food but the location, history of Cunetto’s, and the friendly service are other things that make this restaurant a favorite of many Saint Louis people. Along with the many regulars that eat at this restaurant, there are other people that come from all around the country to get their fix of Cunetto’s. Just like the famous Saint Louis restaurants of Ted Drew’s, and Gus Pretzels, I think that Cunetto’s should be classified as a Saint Louis legend as well.
