Track 2016

From the first bang of the starting gun, the Boys and Girls Parkway South track team have been sprinting toward success this season.

But they may have slipped past many people, who may not realize how talented this year’s team truly is. That’s partly because even those athletes with less experience, like freshman Steven Martin, are contributing, according to varsity coach Joe Rosewell.

“Overall, we are a young team with lots of sophomores who are still a little inexperienced in varsity,” said Rosewell. “But having six talented varsity athletes to help them become stronger and faster could make us a team that has the capability of going to state. And, hopefully the help they get from the older varsity players will give them confidence individually to exceed the expectations they have for themselves.”

Coach Rosewell says every year he motivates himself to become better than ever before, and this year’s team is responding with hard work and consistency.

The girls team also aspires to go to state and become one of the best that Parkway South has ever seen.Catherine Costrino exemplifies that exact expectation.

“So far we’ve only had a couple of meets, and overall we’ve done pretty well,” said Costrino. “But we still have to do a lot more conditioning so win some more serious meets like state. And having such great athletes fro distance and sprints makes our team’s chances become even stronger. .Girls like Caitlin Klopfer and Anna McMiller are two strong distance runners who have made it to state before. And I plan on focusing on my 400-800 meter run and maybe going to state myself.”
