Club hockey

2ec398f08b614a9c5c77e56fb35e1d9b The first game happened on Monday at our home ice, Queeny Park, against the CBC Cadets.  The team is hopeful for another great season for some of the big name players that are coming back. The Parkway South Club hockey team is very excited about the 2015-2016 season and we hear from coach Joseph Bovaconti as he said,

“ My main goal for the season is to win the Wickenheiser Cup and play at Scottrade Center for the finals,” said coach Joseph Bovaconti.

The players that he believes that can take him there are TJ Delaney and Jake Dierson. Senior Jake Dierson is that captain of the Parkway South Club Hockey team and his coach tells us that he is not just a talented player and a good leader but what he says is that he is,

“One of the best guys to ever walk out of South High School,” Said Bovaconti.

TJ is the alternate captain that coach Bovaconti was just raving about when I ask who are some of the main leaders for your team.

“TJ has matured so much since he first started playing and I am not just talking about his skill but he has turned into a really good man and a great leader for us,” said Bovaconti.

When talking to junior Stephen Herbel he agreed with coach Bovaconti when saying that playing against CBC this season might be the hardest matchup of the season. The CBC team always seems to produce a really good team and always make it hard for the Parkway South Club Hockey team to win. The players and the fans always look forward to the match ups between Rockwood Summit, Parkway West, and CBC even if the CBC team always seems to pull off the victory over us it is still always a great game.

When asking Senior Grant Rieger was the team likes to do to get pumped before the games,

“We play soccer and some 80’s music and we always get in one screamo song,” said Grant

When saying this it shows how much the team really has bonded and always make sure to have a good time. They aren’t a team that get in fights and have stupid penalties, and they always stick together as a team. When asking coach Bovaconti about the team he told me,

“They are probably the best group of kids that I have worked with and they always like to have fun and make the game more fun and more exciting,” said Bovaconti.

The coach doesn’t know what else to say about this team besides that they are definitely one of the best teams that he has ever worked with and that is not just on the ice but off the ice to he just really enjoys working with that group of kids.

The hockey team has two goalies that both play and whenever they get in they will always perform. Kyle McClellan was named Fox Sports Midwest player of the Month and there other goalie Lexi Thomeczek was talked about in the STL Today as they talked about how great of a goalie she is for the Parkway South Club Hockey team. The two goalies make sure they will lead their team to a victory every night and they are two of the main pieces to this South Club Hockey team. Also the help from TJ Delaney being the leading score this year by a lot of goals sure does make it easier on the goalies every night when they don’t have to worry about it being there fault if they lose a game.

The season has already started and with the Parkway South Club Hockey team sitting at 5-3-1 in the division they have a very good chance of making the cup this season and hopefully we will all be able to watch at the Scottrade Center when they play the finals this year. So make sure to come watch South play there next match and watch out because hopefully you’ll see an amazing save from one of our goalies or maybe a great shot by TJ.
