Kabuki sushi and Thai

Kabuki sushi and Thai

December 7, 2015

First of all, I am a huge seafood lover. I’ve grown up eating all sorts of fish. Fish I caught fresh from the river to fish packaged as Sardines, I’ve had it all. As a kid my parents spoiled me with variety in my food and I’m thankful for that because today I can enjoy nearly all ranges of foods. So even though sushi may seem foreign I’ve had my share of raw fish. So Kabuki Sushi and Thai seemed a little off the charts for a Midwest high school to be writing about in a school newspaper. However,  I was very pleased with my visit to the restaurant. Upon reaching the building I was second guessing myself on having to try this place out. Even with my broad food background I still had trouble stomaching the fact I was going to be eating raw fish.

This restaurant is located at 15015 Manchester Rd, Ballwin, MO 63011, about ten minutes away from the school. It’s a short drive that was pleasing with the company I was with. I brought my mom and stepdad to embark on this journey with me and they are total seafood haters. I rarely see them eat anything that isn’t frozen pizza or a part of a cow. For them to try sushi with me took a lot of courage. Once we arrived the place looked closed. The lights were dim and no one was visible through the curtains that hung on the windows. When we opened the door and walked in. I was amazed by the atmosphere of the inside. There was a super nice bar area that looked over the rest of the restaurant. If you sat at the bar you are looking at a TV, as well as, the chefs making sushi directly in front of you. The bar was white granite and the wall the TV hung upon was neatly decorated with stones. The seating area for the restaurant was plentiful but the building wasn’t huge. We were there around 2 P.M. so it wasn’t prime lunch time, yet it was still semi-crowded.

Once we were seated I first noticed how comfortable the chair was. I sank into the leather cushion and placed my arms on the arm rest. It was like sitting on a cloud and that was very pleasing. The table was so clean I could see my reflection in the glossy surface. My mom noticed the cleanliness as well and that made her more confident in the sushi tasting.

Looking at the menu was sort of confusing. Maybe it was because my lack of sushi experience or the fact they give you four different menus, but we couldn’t seem to figure out how to order. The waitress we had was super nice and helped us tremendously. My mom and stepdad decided on getting the sampler platter so that I could try all kinds of foods, and so they could back out of eating sushi. The platter consisted of egg rolls, edamame peas, dumplings, and chicken on a stick. I ordered the all you can eat sushi. It originally said 13 dollars for the all you can eat but on Saturdays they bump up the price to 20 dollars. Kind of confused and frustrated on why they would do that I still decided to order this. The order came with a soup, which I decided not to order, but then I ordered four rolls of sushi. I got the spicy crab, spicy tuna, shrimp lovers, and salmon roll. Compared to the sushi you can purchase at the mall, this sushi is a tad bit expensive. The sushi and dining at Kabuki is a lot more gourmet than other sushi places so that explains the high prices. It was about five to seven dollars per roll and you can eat about three rolls with little struggle.

It took about 15 minutes for my food to reach the table and this was nice, but my food came a good five minutes before my mom’s. This is my only complaint about the service of the restaurant because every worker in the place was as nice as could be. The food was amazing. My first bite I loved and proceeded to demolish all the kinds of sushi I ordered. The sampler platter got wiped clean by my parents who said they loved everything they tried. My mom went from a hater of sushi to all the sudden loving it all in one day. I’m glad that we got her to enjoy sushi because that means we can go back to Kabuki.

I loved Kabuki and I will for sure be a regular there. Even though it may not be as nice as the places like P.F. Chang’s, it did have a lot of nice things going for it. The dim lights and the comfortable seats would make it a great place to go on a date. It was middle of the line to high on the price scale but the amount and quality of food surely made up for it. I received an entire plate of sushi that I couldn’t finish. I was nearly as full from the sushi as I was from Thanksgiving dinner just three days before. Like I said the place was super clean and the decor of the place sent off good vibes. The way the sushi came out, it was rolled to perfection. On the plate was wasabi hot sauce and ginger that are both musts for any sushi place. I can’t wait to go back to Kabuki Sushi and Thai. I was so impressed with the first visit I think I will get the exact same thing next time I go. If you are in the mood for some fresh sushi Kabuki is the place to go!
