Epic Pizza and Subs

Epic+Pizza+and+Subs

My standards were set higher for Epic Pizza and Subs than they have been for any other restaurant. For Epic Pizza and Subs to be epic to me they were really going to have to impress me with something fresh. I wanted something different than the generic brands of pizza people eat everyday, and that’s exactly what I got. I loved the food at Epic, with every bite I enjoyed myself even more. So excited for my meal I took the thirty minute hike to the City of Saint Louis. In the heart of historic Soulard is where this restaurant rests. The scenery of Soulard on a Friday night in October was amazing. Just pulling into the general area of Epic I was already given this vibe of social life and fall living. Epic would be a great place to dine with the Saint Louis Cardinals playoff baseball starting and the Blues beginning their season. Not only are there sporting events but there is also a haunted house called, “The Darkness,” that is only minutes away. If you are looking for something more entertaining than just the food, Epic Pizza and Subs has plenty of attractions that will keep you entertained.

Right when you walk into the door of the building you are hit with the style of class and sophistication. From the instant you walked in you know this place isn’t a dump of a restaurant. Just breathing in the air left you with sweet aromas of pizza and buffalo wings. The place was quite busy with it being a Saturday during lunch time, but I enjoyed the scenery and numerous conversations among the other customers. Unlike my last trip to Dalies, this time the layout was easy to understand. Even though I had my stepdad with me who goes there regularly, I picked up on what to do nearly instantly. You walk through the door and get right into line to order. The menu is posted to the right of the cashier’s head which is perfect because you can read it as soon as you step into the building. My first impressions were all positive of Epic Pizza and Subs.

IMG_1162Despite the easy layout of the restaurant I knew exactly what I wanted before I even arrived. My couple classes of research and the persuasion of my step dad allowed me to figure out what I wanted days before we went. The gentleman who took my order was extremely polite, which just bettered my first impressions of the staff. In fact he was the owner of the restaurant, and my step dad knew him so we had a nice conversation. After I ordered my step dad followed; we each got different slices of pizza so I could try all the flavors. I ordered slices by the name of, Epic Supreme, and Buffalo Chicken Pizza. My step dad ordered the Meat, and NY Cheese. After we ordered we each got a drink, I got sweet eat which was cold and tasted amazing. Rick( my step dad) went with the regular Pepsi. We decided to sit at a table near the back of the restaurant. The decor of the restaurant consisted of numerous Budweiser paintings and Cardinal Posters. There were two TV’s playing college football but I was very pleased with the hometown decorations of Budweiser and the Cardinals. From the time we ordered until our food came was approximately ten minutes. This was quick despite how busy there were and our pizza came out fresh. It smelled like something out of this world and tasted even better. I took my first bite of Epic Supreme and the flavor hit me instantly. The bacon took over my taste buds but the onions offered just enough bitterness to balance out the sweet flavors. Every slice of pizza I tried I really enjoyed. My favorite slice has to be the Meat because how can you go wrong with bacon and meatballs? My step dad enjoyed everything about his meal as well. Despite him coming regularly he still seemed to enjoy the food just as much as I did. Even though I only ate three slices of pizza I left Epics full and already missing my food. I wanted to get another piece as soon as I was hungry again.epic pizza

The slices of Pizza were big enough to feed me after three pieces, and I eat a lot. If you are going there not so hungry I would still recommend getting at least three pieces because you are either going to end up eating it all or wanting to take some home for later. If you are not in the mood for pizza Epic is still a place you shouldn’t over look. They have subs ranging from Hot Ham and Cheese to a thick Cheeseburger, and then a classic Chicken Parmesan to top it off. I did not try the subs on my trip to Epic but I can almost guarantee that if their subs taste half as good as their pizza you will be in for a treat. Looking back I was to amazed with the taste of the food to think about much else, but the pizza looked as amazing as it tasted.  The slices came on a shining silver
platter that was warm to the touch. The food was nearly decorated with each pizza looking different from the next. You could tell that Epic did the little things correctly which led to the whole experience being more enjoyable. The staff did not cut corners on cleaning at all. The place was near spotless and there wasn’t a mess on tables for more than a few minutes before the staff had the

table clean again. Prices of pizza were reasonable for how big the slice of pizza is. Nearly four dollars seems like a lot for a single slice of pizza but upon your first bite you will understand why. I have no way to critique Epic because everything was perfect. From the food to the decor to the staff everything was pleasant. Along with the hometown decorations they were playing blues type music through the speakers and it fit right into the feel of the restaurant. The feel of the restaurant made my food taste better in a way. Because I was enjoying myself before I got my food I was already in a good mood once I started eating.

All in all I would say Epic Pizza and Subs is pretty epic. If you are in soulard and have an empty stomach then Epic will not disappoint. After this trip I will surely become a regular there whenever I’m in the mood for pizza. I hope you get the chance to try Epic sometime soon, if you don’t you’ll be missing out.
