Coffee Cart Crew

Teachers needing a caffeine fix can get help from the Coffee Cart during ac. lab.

Do you ever need a caffeine boost during Ac. Lab? Or have you just seen the Coffee Cart Crew roaming around during Ac. Lab, but have you ever wondered what goes on behind the cart and how it is run?

Well, every blue day during Ac. Lab the coffee cart is brought to the teachers who need an extra jolt to get them through the day.

Coffee Cart and its crew is hosted and run by Jo Karimi.  Karimi said at the start of Ac. Lab the Crew has a couple of procedures before starting their route. First the kids make sure to wash their hands and get rid of any germs, and second they set up stations–in one station the kids make sure to make iced coffee, the second station is the hot coffee station where kids are putting coffee beans and mixing it with hot water, and lastly they set all coffee on the coffee on the cart.

The Coffee Cart also has 3 stations for the procedure of selling coffee. The first station is the Barista–the Barista brews the coffee and also hands out the coffee and the correct type of coffee to the buyer, secondly there is the Banker–the Banker carries a bag that takes change and cash for the coffee, The Coffees are priced at $1 for Hot and $2 for Iced.

When a teacher has bought a certain amount of coffee they get a special coupon that is for one free coffee. There is also the Order Taker. The Order Taker, as it says, takes the orders; they knock on teachers’ doors always with a smile and ask them what type of coffee they would like to get and hand the rest to the Barista and the Banker.

Karimi said she makes sure that the Coffee Cart Crew is getting the skills they need for later in life such as social skills, gaining work experience, social comfort, which leads to a better chance to get a job later in life.

We also asked the Crew about how they enjoy working the cart.

“I enjoy getting to talk to the teachers,” senior Lily Manning said.

“I like making the coffee and working the Barista station,” sophomore Josh Norah said.

Lastly, sophomore Amy Callier told us that she enjoys being with her friends and loves interacting with others.

We also asked a couple of questions to Ms. Karimi about their routes and where the money goes for the Coffee Cart.

Karimi said all the money made from the Coffee Cart goes right back into buying more supplies. She said the Cart’s route during every Ac. Lab goes by about 15 teachers’ doors.
