The varsity boys basketball team defeated DeSmet last night, 79-51, to reach the District Championship tomorrow night, where they will play the CBC Cadets at 7 p.m.

Senior Matt DeRouse led the Patriots offensively last night, scoring 30 points. AJ Sommer and Jordan Doyle also contributed with 16 points each.

DeRouse’s 30 points is the most he’s ever scored in his high school career.

“It felt good. We were passing the ball really well and we were trusting each other,” he said. “We knew if we kept doing that we’d be able to win and that’s what worked out.”

The Patriots’ opponent tomorrow night, CBC, beat Kirkwood, 76-63. The Cadets are led by Caleb Love who averages 17.8 points per game. Defensively, Joshua Wallace averages 6 rebounds per game.

DeRouse said he’s excited to face CBC.

“They’re a good team. They’re strong and physical. They’re probably one of the best teams we’ve seen all year,” he said. “It will be a good test for us.”
