Patriot girls beat Ursuline, face Kirkwood tonight

Led by Lani Thompson with 19 points and 10 rebounds, last night the Patriot girls’ basketball team defeated Ursuline, 46-38, and is now moving on to play the Kirkwood Pioneers on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Kirkwood in the District Championship.

Mia Patterson also gave the Patriots a boost by scoring 16 points with 9 rebounds.

The girls will face a Kirkwood team which beat Rockwood Summit, 64-24. The Pioneers are led by 5’9″ shooting guard Jaidah Stewart who is averaging 17 points per game. Defensively, 6-foot forward Natatlie Bruns averages 6 rebounds per game. Kirkwood is the reigning State Champion. Earlier this year the Patriots narrowly lost to the Pioneers, 53-40.

“They’re a really talented team. At this point in the season I think we’re where we want to be,” Patterson said. “I think all the pressure is on Kirkwood. We’re hoping they’ll overlook us.”
